Who might be able to join this trial:
- People in the OCD group: those who have a confirmed diagnosis of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) based on standard psychiatric diagnostic guidelines (DSM-5)
- People in the control group: those who have been screened and do not have any of the psychiatric conditions assessed by a standard psychiatric interview tool
- People between the ages of 18 and 65
- People who speak Portuguese or English fluently
Who may not be able to join:
- People who currently have an acute (sudden or severe) physical illness
- People who have issues with substance misuse or dependence
- People who are pregnant
- People who have dementia
- People who have a developmental condition involving low intellectual ability, or any other form of cognitive (thinking or memory) impairment
- People who have an active neurological condition (a condition affecting the brain or nervous system)
- People who have a previously identified structural abnormality in the brain or central nervous system
- People who are unable to read, or who would otherwise be unable to understand the study's instructions
- People who are unable to give informed consent (agreement to participate based on understanding the study)
- People who are currently experiencing a psychotic episode or a mood disorder serious enough to require hospitalisation
- For one part of the study (Experiment 2): there are additional criteria related to the safe use of a brain stimulation technique called TMS — the trial site would need to assess these separately (confirm with trial site)

Concentration of high sensitivity C Reactive Protein (hsCRP).; Seropositivity for Group A Streptococcus (GAS).; Basal ganglia and orbito-frontal cortex (OFC) volume.; Exposure to childhood trauma as measured by the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ).; Obsessive-compulsive symptom severity.; Measurement of fractional anisotropy (FA) in the brain white matter.; Functional connectivity of the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC).; Concentration of N-acetyl-aspartate (NAA) and N-acetyl-aspartyl-glutamate (NAAG).; Model-free component in a computational model of a reinforcement learning behavioral task.
