Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with an insomnia disorder, OR who score 10 or higher on a standard insomnia questionnaire (called the Insomnia Severity Index), AND who also score 10 or higher on a standard anxiety questionnaire (called the GAD-7).
- People of any sex or gender.
- People aged between 18 and 45 years old.
- People who are able to give their informed agreement to take part in the study.
- People who are proficient in English.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a sleep or body-clock disorder other than insomnia — for example, excessive daytime sleepiness, restless limb movements during sleep, advanced or delayed sleep patterns, or moderate to severe sleep apnoea (confirmed by a previous sleep study showing certain measurements above set thresholds).
- People with a current or past neurological condition, such as a stroke or brain injury.
- People with a current or past diagnosis of bipolar disorder, psychosis, or moderate to severe obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
- People with a current uncontrolled mental health condition (other than major depression or anxiety disorders) that requires specialist care.
- People taking medications that act on the brain, or who have a medical condition that could affect their ability to participate (confirm with trial site).
- People who are pregnant, actively trying to conceive, or currently breastfeeding.
- People who do shift work (working between 9pm and 6am) for two or more shifts per week over the past three months.
- People who have travelled across time zones with more than a three-hour difference in the past 30 days — though a waiting period of one day per hour of time zone difference may apply (confirm with trial site).
- People who are not willing to be informed about unexpected health findings that may come up during the study.
- People who are unable or unwilling to give consent or follow the study instructions for any part of the trial.
