Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with, or are suspected to have, one of the following conditions: Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, ankylosing spondylitis, non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis, multiple sclerosis, scleroderma, systemic sclerosis with lung involvement, or another autoimmune disease (confirm with trial site).
- You are 18 years old or older at the time you sign the consent form.
- You are able to understand and willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the study.
- You are currently taking certain approved treatments for your condition that are not known to directly harm immune cells called T cells, such as anti-inflammatory pain relievers, or specific biological or oral medications used for autoimmune diseases (confirm with trial site for your specific medication).
- You are a suitable candidate for a biopsy or tissue sample to be taken either during a planned medical procedure where extra material would be used for research, or as a low-risk research-only procedure in the opinion of your doctor.
Who may not be able to join:
- You are taking certain medications that are known to be harmful to T cells and cannot be stopped for at least 4 weeks before the study, including steroids (such as prednisone or budesonide), sulfasalazine, mesalamine, azathioprine, methotrexate, certain JAK inhibitor tablets, alemtuzumab, cladribine, or teriflunomide — unless a specific exception is approved by the study organisers.
- You have another illness or condition that your doctor feels would make it unsafe or unsuitable for you to take part in this study.
- You have dementia, a significantly altered mental state, or a psychiatric condition that would prevent you from understanding and agreeing to take part.
- You have had a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction to local anaesthetics (such as lidocaine) or to sedation medications that may be used during a biopsy procedure.
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, due to potential unknown risks to both you and your baby from the study procedures or anaesthetics used.
- You have any other medical or mental health condition that your treating doctor believes would make taking part in this study unreasonably risky for you.
