Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 18 or older
  • People who have been diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndromes, a myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasm, or acute myeloid leukaemia
  • People who are receiving a less intensive form of chemotherapy (either as a first treatment or after a previous treatment has stopped working)
  • People who have very low platelet counts — either 30 or below, or 50 or below before chemotherapy begins (platelets are the cells that help blood clot)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose clinical team believes they are unlikely to survive more than 30 days
  • People who are not able to give their own informed consent to participate
  • People with a known allergy to tranexamic acid (the medication being studied)
  • People who currently have an active blood clotting condition (such as a blood clot in a vein or artery)
  • People with active ischemic heart disease (a condition where the heart is not getting enough blood flow)
  • People with significant bleeding in the urine
  • People with stage 5 chronic kidney disease (the most severe stage of long-term kidney failure)
  • People whose doctors suspect they have a serious clotting and bleeding disorder called disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC)
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
