Who might be able to join this trial:

For women who still have regular periods (premenopausal):

  • Women between 18 and 45 years old
  • Women with regular menstrual cycles, meaning no missed periods in the past year and cycle lengths between 25 and 35 days

For women who have gone through menopause (postmenopausal):

  • Women who have had no periods for at least 12 months
  • Women with a hormone level called FSH measured at 50 mIU/ml or above

Who may not be able to join:

For all women:

  • People with a Body Mass Index (a measure of body weight relative to height) above 30

  • People with a thyroid condition, shown by a thyroid hormone level (TSH) that falls outside the range of 0.5 to 5.0 mU/L
  • People with uncontrolled high blood pressure, meaning a resting reading above 150/90 mmHg

Additional criteria for postmenopausal women:

  • Women who currently use or have a history of using estrogen-based hormone therapy
  • Women whose menopause was caused by surgery

Additional criteria for premenopausal women:

  • Women who have used hormonal contraception (such as the pill) in the past 6 months
  • Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the study
