This trial has four different groups of people who may be eligible:

Group 1 – High-risk screening (new participants):

  • People aged 50 or older
  • People who currently smoke
  • People who used to smoke, as long as they stopped no more than 15 years ago
  • People with a smoking history of more than 20 pack-years (a measure combining how much and how long a person has smoked)
  • People whose calculated lung cancer risk score, using a specific medical tool called PLCOm2012, is above 1.2% (confirm with trial site)
  • People who are willing and able to sign a consent form

Group 2 – People already in a lung cancer screening program with findings:

  • People who have previously taken part in a lung cancer screening program and were found to have lung nodules (small spots on the lung) larger than 4mm, and who are scheduled for a follow-up CT scan
  • People who are willing and able to sign a consent form

Group 3 – People already in a lung cancer screening program with clear results:

  • People who have previously taken part in a lung cancer screening program at this specific hospital and had a clear (negative) CT scan result
  • People who are willing and able to sign a consent form

Group 4 – Lung cancer patients:

  • People who have been diagnosed with lung cancer, or are suspected of having it, and are being considered for surgery or have already had surgery
  • People who have been diagnosed with lung cancer and have already had surgical treatment
  • People who are willing and able to sign a consent form

Who may not be able to join:

Group 1 – High-risk screening (new participants):

  • People who have had, or currently have, any cancer other than skin cancer
  • People who have difficulty with thinking, understanding, or communication that could prevent them from giving informed consent
  • People with serious lung disease or serious disease affecting other parts of the body
  • People who have had a low-dose CT scan within the past 12 months

Group 2 – People already in screening with findings:

  • No exclusion criteria listed for this group

Group 3 – People already in screening with clear results:

  • No exclusion criteria listed for this group

Group 4 – Lung cancer patients:

  • People whose CT scan images are not available at San Raffaele Hospital
  • People who received treatment to shrink their cancer before surgery (such as chemotherapy or radiation given prior to an operation)
