Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Women aged 60 years old or younger
  • Women who need a full removal of the uterus (with or without removal of related structures such as the fallopian tubes or ovaries) because of uterine fibroids (non-cancerous growths in the uterus)
  • Women with a body mass index (a measure of body weight relative to height) between 18.5 and 27.9
  • Women who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part, either themselves or through a legal representative

Who may not be able to join:

  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Women with no history of sexual activity, vaginal abnormalities or scarring, or vaginal shrinkage and narrowing after menopause (confirm with trial site)
  • Women whose pre-surgery assessments suggest a possibility of cancer
  • Women with a uterus enlarged to the size seen at 20 or more weeks of pregnancy; a history of pelvic infection; severe endometriosis (a condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus); significant uterine prolapse (grade III or IV); or a history of bowel obstruction, recurring pelvic infections, pelvic tuberculosis, or pelvic tumours; or where a gynaecological examination shows certain internal pelvic spaces are completely closed
  • Women with known severe liver or kidney problems
  • Women with known blood disorders, problems with blood clotting, active bleeding anywhere in the body, or a tendency to bleed
  • Women with serious conditions affecting the nervous system, heart and blood vessels, liver, kidneys, digestive system, lungs, hormonal or metabolic systems (such as thyroid disease, Cushing's syndrome, or high prolactin levels), muscles and bones, or mental health
  • Women with a current acute (sudden or active) infection
  • Women who are known to have taken part in another clinical trial or have used hormone therapy within the past 3 months
  • Women who are unable to sign a consent form
  • Women who are known or expected to have difficulty following the trial requirements through to completion
