Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 60 years of age or older, OR people aged 45 to 59 years who have been diagnosed with diabetes (either Type 1 or Type 2), regardless of how their blood sugar is currently managed
- People who have been regularly receiving some form of dialysis for at least the past 90 days
- People who are currently receiving haemodialysis (HD) at a dialysis centre or satellite unit, at least 3 times per week
- People who have a valid provincial or territorial health insurance card number (this applies to Canadian health insurance)
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose kidney specialist (nephrologist) or dialysis nurse practitioner does not consider this study appropriate for them — this could be because they are known or expected to have a bad reaction to a specific dialysis filter called the Nipro Elisio HX; or they are planned to receive a different type of dialysis treatment called HDF or nocturnal HD; or they are expected to stop receiving centre-based dialysis within the next 3 months for any reason (such as moving to home dialysis, receiving a kidney transplant, or other reasons); or they are expected to frequently miss or shorten their dialysis sessions; or their doctor strongly prefers they use a specific type of dialysis filter; or there is another medical, personal, or practical reason
- People who are already enrolled in another clinical trial that does not allow participants to join additional trials at the same time, or that would make it difficult to follow this trial's procedures
- People who have previously been enrolled in this trial
- People who have declined to participate
