Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 50 years of age or older.
- People who have been clearly diagnosed with degenerative (age-related wear and tear) heart valve disease, confirmed by ultrasound or medical history, with signs of calcium buildup in the valve — this includes cases ranging from no valve problems caused by the calcium, through to mild, moderate, or severe narrowing or leaking of the valve.
- People whose kidneys are not working at full capacity, specifically with a kidney filtration rate below 60 mL/min as measured by a standard formula called CKD-EPI.
- People with a higher-than-normal level of phosphorus in their blood (above 1.45 mmol/L or 4.5 mg/dL).
Who may not be able to join:
- People who do not agree to sign the study's consent form.
- People whose heart valve disease is caused by something other than age-related degeneration — for example, rheumatic heart disease or a heart valve problem present from birth — even if calcium buildup is present.
- People whose valve condition has been assessed by a heart surgeon as needing surgery or a procedure, and where there are no medical reasons preventing that surgery or procedure.
- People whose life expectancy is estimated to be less than one year.
- People with abnormal parathyroid gland function (confirm with trial site).
- People with kidney problems who are expected to need dialysis within the next six months.
- People who have a malignant (cancerous) tumour.
