Who might be able to join this trial:
For people experiencing psychosis symptoms:
- People aged 18 to 65 years old
- People currently experiencing psychosis symptoms that a psychiatrist involved in their care has confirmed need treatment from specialist mental health services
- People whose psychosis symptoms are believed by their treating clinical team to be linked to a mental health condition in a specific diagnostic category (confirm with trial site)
- People who are about to start a new antipsychotic medication, switch to a different one, or restart one they had previously stopped taking for at least two weeks
For people joining as healthy comparison participants (controls):
- People aged 18 to 65 years old
- People with no currently active autoimmune condition
- People with no history of psychosis symptoms
Who may not be able to join:
For people experiencing psychosis symptoms:
- People where there is an unacceptable risk of harm to themselves or trial staff due to concerns about behaviour
- People who are currently taking, or have taken in the last four weeks, certain medications that strongly affect the immune system (such as steroids, methotrexate, or certain antibody-based therapies — confirm with trial site for full list)
- People who are unable to have blood tests
For healthy comparison participants:
- People where there is an unacceptable risk of harm to themselves or trial staff due to concerns about behaviour
- People who are currently taking, or have taken in the last four weeks, certain medications that strongly affect the immune system (such as steroids, methotrexate, or certain antibody-based therapies — confirm with trial site for full list)
- People who are unable to have blood tests
For the optional spinal fluid procedure (lumbar puncture) only — these additional criteria apply:
- People with a significant deformity, injury, or previous surgery affecting the lower spine
- People who have taken blood-thinning or anti-clotting medications in the 14 days before the procedure
- People with a known or suspected blood clotting disorder
- People with a clinically significant abnormality in a full blood count result
- People with known or suspected raised pressure inside the skull, as assessed by a study clinician
- People with a known or suspected allergy to local anaesthetic or any of its ingredients
- People with a history of ongoing or frequently recurring headaches, in the opinion of the investigator
