Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have a single, newly diagnosed kidney tumour on one side only, that is suspected to be kidney cancer (not inherited or familial)
- People who are scheduled to have robot-assisted keyhole surgery to remove the tumour while keeping the rest of the kidney
- People whose other (non-operated) kidney is working well, with a function level above 40% as measured by a nuclear medicine scan
- People who are willing to take part in long-term follow-up appointments after the surgery
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are older than 80 years of age
- People who have other kidney conditions (such as kidney stones or kidney inflammation) that could affect how the operated kidney works
- People who are not healthy enough to undergo robot-assisted keyhole surgery
- People who have had previous surgery on the affected kidney, or who have a history of any inflammatory condition affecting that kidney
- People whose kidney tumour is touching or growing into the urine-collecting part of the kidney, or is 4mm or less away from it
