Who might be able to join this trial:

Group 1 (ages 50 to 80):

  • People who are currently not using tobacco products.
  • People who identify as East Asian (including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese, or Malaysian), Southeast Asian (including Cambodian, Thai, Vietnamese, or Filipino), or Hispanic/Latinx (including those of Cuban, Puerto Rican, Dominican, or other Central or South American or Caribbean origin — not including people originally from Spain).
  • For parts of the study involving surveys or tests: people who can read and understand consent forms in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Spanish, Portuguese, or Cape Verdean.
  • For the focus group part of the study: people who can read, understand, and speak in English, Mandarin, Vietnamese, or Spanish.

Group 2 (ages 40 to 49):

  • People who are currently not using tobacco products and identify as East Asian, Southeast Asian, or Hispanic/Latinx, AND who meet at least one of the following conditions:
  • A family member has been diagnosed with a specific type of lung cancer linked to gene changes called EGFR L858R or exon 19 (confirm with trial site).
  • A personal history of a cancer other than lung cancer or certain chest-area cancers, as long as it was fully resolved more than 5 years ago.
  • A history of tuberculosis (TB), asthma that requires daily inhaled medication, or chronic bronchitis.
  • Symptoms in the past month that may include coughing up blood, unexplained weight loss, a hoarse voice, a new or worsening cough, or new or worsening shortness of breath.
  • For parts of the study involving surveys or tests: people who can read and understand consent forms in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Spanish, Portuguese, or Cape Verdean.
  • For the focus group part of the study: people who can read, understand, and speak in English, Mandarin, Vietnamese, or Spanish.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have had a chest CT scan in the past 3 years, or who are expecting to have one during the time the trial is enrolling.
  • People who currently have cancer, or who have had cancer within the last 5 years (certain minor skin cancers and a specific non-invasive breast condition may be exceptions — confirm with trial site).
  • People who have smoked or used tobacco for a total of more than 400 cigarettes (roughly 20 packs) over their lifetime.
  • People who are not able to provide informed consent on their own.
  • People under 40 years of age.
  • People who are currently in prison.
  • People who are pregnant.
  • People who have personally been diagnosed with lung cancer.
  • People who are not able to meet the requirements of the study.
  • People in Group 2 who currently have fever, a cold, flu, COVID-19, RSV, adenovirus infection, a runny nose, sore throat, or a cough producing green or yellow mucus.
