Who might be able to join this trial:

• You are between 18 and 75 years old at the time of signing up
• Your body weight is between 45 and 100 kg (approximately 99–220 lbs)
• You have been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD) at a moderate-to-severe stage, but you are not currently on dialysis
• You have been diagnosed with anemia related to your kidney disease, with a specific low blood count level — the exact required range depends on whether you are currently taking certain anemia medications (confirm with trial site)
• Your iron levels in the blood meet a minimum threshold at the time of screening
• You are willing to take part voluntarily and sign a consent form

Who may not be able to join:

• Your blood pressure is not well controlled (too high) even after at least 4 weeks of treatment
• You have very high levels of protein leaking into your urine that are not well controlled
• Your anemia is caused by something other than kidney disease, such as a blood disorder, bleeding disorder, or cancer-related anemia
• You have a history of autoimmune diseases (such as lupus) that can cause anemia
• You have had active bleeding in the 4 weeks before screening
• You have had a serious heart or blood clot event — such as a heart attack, stroke, or pulmonary embolism — within the past 6 months, or have had heart surgery or a stent procedure within that time
• You have very severe heart failure
• You have received a blood transfusion within the past 2 months
• You have taken immune-suppressing medications within the past 6 months
• You are expected to need dialysis, a kidney transplant, or major surgery within the next 6 months
• You have significant liver problems identified through blood tests at screening
• You are currently taking both an ESA injection medication and roxadustat (two types of anemia treatments) at the same time
• You have a history of a certain type of advanced eye disease related to diabetes that has required eye treatment
• You have severely overactive parathyroid glands (a gland condition that affects bones and kidneys) (confirm with trial site)
• You have a serious active infection, such as active tuberculosis or a serious fungal infection
• You are mostly bedridden or have serious difficulty walking, or you have a history of an irregular heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation) or blood clots in the leg veins
