Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have recently been diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) in your lungs, confirmed by a lab test, tissue sample, or a doctor's clinical assessment
- You had TB in the past but were fully cured at least 3 years ago
- You are 21 years old or older
- Your recent blood tests (taken within the last 14 days) show that your liver, kidneys, blood cell counts, and platelets are within acceptable ranges (confirm with trial site for specific values)
- You are willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the study
- You agree to follow the local health authority's treatment plan to make sure you take your medications as directed
Who may not be able to join:
- Your sputum (mucus/phlegm) test shows a very high level of TB bacteria (described as "strongly positive")
- Your chest X-ray or CT scan shows open or cavity-type areas of infection in your lungs
- Your chest X-ray or CT scan shows very widespread disease and your doctor feels a shorter treatment course would not be appropriate
- You have TB both inside and outside of your lungs at the same time
- You are unable to swallow or take oral (by mouth) medications
- You have already taken part in this study before
- You have already been taking TB medications for more than 14 days
- You have a history of TB affecting the brain or nervous system, bones or joints, widespread TB throughout the body (miliary TB), or TB around the heart
- You have a known allergy or bad reaction to the study medication
- You have HIV infection, have had an organ transplant, or have chronic kidney failure
- You have been taking immune-suppressing medications (including steroids above a certain dose) for a long period recently
- During the study, if it is found that your TB bacteria are resistant to key TB medications (rifampin, isoniazid, or ethambutol), you may be removed from the trial
