Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been newly diagnosed with Stage III to Stage IVB squamous cell cancer (a type of cancer) in the mouth, nose, sinuses, throat, voice box, or related areas of the head and neck, based on the AJCC 8th edition staging system.
- People who have tumor tissue available that can be used to create a personalised cancer DNA tracking test (called a tumor-informed ctDNA panel).
- People whose planned standard treatment — either surgery or a combination of chemotherapy and radiation — is scheduled to take place at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Institute (MEEI) or within the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Cancer Center, including the Boston, Danvers, and Newton-Wellesley locations.
Who may not be able to join:
- People under 18 years of age.
- People whose treatment plan falls outside of standard medical care, as decided by the clinical investigator.
- People who have already had surgery (other than a small incisional biopsy), radiation, or chemotherapy for this type of head and neck cancer before enrolling in the trial.
- People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial involving an experimental treatment at the time of joining.
- People whose cancer has spread to distant parts of the body such as the lungs, bones, or liver (classified as AJCC Stage IVC), confirmed by biopsy.
- People who currently have another active cancer that is not the head and neck cancer being studied.
- People who are pregnant during the treatment period.
