Who might be able to join this trial:

- People between the ages of 35 and 80 years old
- People who have been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD) at stage 1, 2, 3, or 4
- People who report spending 6 or more hours per day sitting or being inactive
- People who can speak, read, and understand English
- People who have access to a telephone
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unable to walk the distance of one city block
- People who cannot stand up from a seated position on their own, without help from another person or device
- People who rely on a wheelchair, walker, or cane for all of their movement
- People who have had a lower leg or upper leg amputation and do not use a prosthetic limb
- People who have a bone or joint condition that would prevent them from sitting down and standing up repeatedly, or from standing (confirm with trial site)
- People who have a neurological or psychiatric condition that would prevent them from sitting down and standing up repeatedly, or from standing (confirm with trial site)
- People who have severe cognitive impairment (serious difficulties with memory, thinking, or understanding)
- People who have unstable heart disease, such as chest pain that occurs with physical activity
- People who have a condition where their blood pressure drops significantly when they stand up (orthostatic hypotension)
- People who have had a kidney transplant
- People who have already taken part in the Patient Advisory Board for this study
- People who have any other condition that the trial investigators determine would prevent safe participation
