Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults aged 18 or older.
  • People with a good general health and activity level, rated 0 or 1 on the WHO performance scale (meaning fully active or able to carry out light work).
  • People with a mouth opening of at least 40mm (for women) or 45mm (for men) before treatment begins.
  • People who have been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma (a type of cancer) in the mouth, throat, or voice box, confirmed by a tissue or cell sample.
  • People whose cancer is at an advanced local stage (stage III or IV).
  • People whose treatment plan involves radiotherapy as the main treatment, where standard additional drug-based treatment is not suitable for them.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have previously had radiation treatment to the same area being targeted in this trial.
  • People who have a condition or situation that may make it difficult to attend follow-up appointments as required.
  • People who have a pacemaker, or who have clustered metal markers in their body where the total length of metal in direct contact exceeds 2cm.
  • People whose tumour is located below a tracheostomy (a surgical opening in the neck), as this may prevent the treatment from reaching the tumour.
  • People whose shoulder anatomy would prevent the treatment device from being properly positioned.
