Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis (AS), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), or lupus (SLE)
- You are able to understand and sign a consent form agreeing to take part
- If you are currently taking certain pain medications (such as anti-inflammatory drugs, tramadol, or paracetamol with codeine), you have been on the same dose for at least 14 days before your first study visit
- If you are taking steroid tablets (such as prednisone), you have been on a low, stable dose for at least 14 days before your first study visit
- If you are taking certain disease-modifying medications (such as methotrexate, leflunomide, sulfasalazine, or hydroxychloroquine), you have been on a stable dose for at least 28 days before your first study visit
- The study doctor considers you to be in generally good health based on your medical history, blood tests, physical exam, and X-ray
Who may not be able to join:
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have previously been treated with any biological therapy (a type of advanced medication used for immune conditions)
- You have had a steroid injection into a joint, tendon, or spine within the past 28 days (inhaled or skin-applied steroids are allowed)
- You have received a live vaccine within the past 4 weeks
- You have had a significant problem with drug or alcohol use in the last 6 months
- You have a type of inflammatory joint condition other than AS, RA, or SLE, or you developed any form of arthritis before the age of 17
- You have any medical condition that is not well controlled, such as uncontrolled diabetes or unstable heart disease
- You have a history of any type of cancer
- You have tested positive for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, or HIV
- You have had an infection requiring hospital treatment or IV antibiotics in the last 30 days, or oral antibiotics in the last 14 days
- For healthy volunteers specifically: you have had a recent acute illness or injury in the last 6 months, a poorly controlled chronic condition, or a family history of autoimmune diseases diagnosed by a rheumatologist (confirm with trial site)
