Who might be able to join this trial:
- People whose bladder cancer has come back after a previous low-grade, non-invasive bladder tumour (called Ta low-grade)
- People whose tumour is smaller than 2 cm across
- People whose urine test (cytology) did not find any cancer cells — this test is optional
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who are able to understand the information given to them about the trial, both in writing and verbally
- People who have given written agreement to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a known history of a bladder tumour that has grown into the bladder wall (stage T1 or higher)
- People with a known history of carcinoma in situ (CIS) of the bladder, a type of flat, high-grade bladder cancer
- People who have previously been treated with MMC (mitomycin C) or BCG, except for a single dose given right after a previous bladder tumour removal procedure
- People with a known allergy or sensitivity to MMC (mitomycin C)
- People with a solid tumour that shows signs it may be growing into the bladder wall
- People whose tumour is located in the bladder neck or urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body)
- People where CIS is suspected based on a positive urine test showing high-grade cancer cells combined with suspicious flat areas seen during a bladder examination (cystoscopy)
- People with a very small bladder (holding less than 100 ml) or who experience urinary incontinence
- People who have previously had radiation therapy to the pelvic area
- People currently experiencing an acute bladder infection (cystitis)
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who are unwilling to use reliable contraception — this applies to men with partners capable of becoming pregnant, and to women who have not yet gone through menopause
