Who might be able to join this trial:
- People whose thyroid cancer was identified before surgery as being smaller than 4 cm in size.
- People whose post-surgery tissue analysis confirmed that cancer was present in both sides of the thyroid, or that cancer had spread to lymph nodes in the side of the neck.

Who may not be able to join:

- People with known allergies to the medicines being studied, or who are unable to tolerate surgery.
- People whose thyroid tumor extended behind the breastbone (confirm with trial site).
- People whose surgery revealed that the tumor had grown into the parathyroid glands or the nerve that controls the voice box.
- People whose post-surgery tissue results showed a type of thyroid cancer called medullary carcinoma or undifferentiated carcinoma.
- People who developed an abnormal opening between the windpipe and surrounding tissue after surgery.
