Who might be able to join this trial:
Group A (newly diagnosed sarcoma):
- People who are under 39 years old at the time of joining the trial
- People who are reasonably physically well and able to carry out daily activities (as measured by standard medical scoring tools)
- People who have been newly diagnosed with a soft tissue or bone sarcoma (confirmed by tissue sample or molecular testing) located anywhere in the body
- People whose cancer has spread to other parts of the body, with at least one measurable spot of spread (larger than 3mm on a CT scan) that is separate from the main tumour, with the CT scan taken within 3 weeks of starting treatment
Group B (returning or worsening sarcoma):
- People who are reasonably physically well and able to carry out daily activities (as measured by standard medical scoring tools)
- People whose soft tissue or bone sarcoma (first diagnosed before age 39) has been confirmed to have grown or spread — either at a new location or at a previously known site
- People whose cancer has spread to other parts of the body, with at least one measurable spot of spread larger than 3mm on a CT scan, separate from the main tumour
- People for whom radiation therapy to at least one site has been recommended as part of their second round of treatment
Who may not be able to join:
Group A:
- People whose cancer has spread to the brain or the fluid and membranes surrounding the brain or spinal cord
- People showing signs that the spinal cord is being compressed in a way that requires urgent radiation treatment
- People who have a positive bone marrow biopsy result (when the primary tumour is not in the pelvis) and more than eight spots of cancer spread to the bones (note: all lung spots together count as just one bone metastasis for this rule)
- People who have any cancer spread that cannot be accurately measured, such as spread to the fluid around the brain or spine, fluid in the abdomen, or fluid around the lungs or heart
- People who are pregnant
Group B:
- People whose cancer has spread to the brain or the fluid and membranes surrounding the brain or spinal cord
- People showing signs that the spinal cord is being compressed in a way that requires urgent radiation treatment
- People who have any cancer spread that cannot be accurately measured, such as spread to the fluid around the brain or spine, fluid in the abdomen, or fluid around the lungs or heart
- People who are pregnant
