Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with non-dysplastic Barrett's esophagus (a condition where the lining of the food pipe changes, but without any abnormal cell changes)
- People whose Barrett's esophagus area is shorter than 5 cm in length
- People who have had at least one recent, good-quality camera examination of the food pipe (endoscopy), carried out properly according to standard guidelines, as determined by their specialist
- People with no confirmed history of abnormal or pre-cancerous cell changes (called "indefinite for dysplasia" or "low-grade dysplasia") in the last 2 years or at their most recent examination, and no history of high-grade dysplasia or cancer in the Barrett's area
- People aged 55 to 75 years old at the time of joining the trial
- People who have given their written agreement to take part (or whose legal guardian has done so)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a history of dysplasia (abnormal cell changes) in the Barrett's area, including prior cancer, prior high-grade dysplasia, or confirmed low-grade dysplasia or borderline abnormal cells in the last 2 years or at the most recent examination
- People who have a visible lesion (an abnormal growth or area) seen during the camera examination of the food pipe
- People who have active, severe inflammation of the food pipe (reflux esophagitis graded C or D)
- People whose Barrett's esophagus area is less than 1 cm in length, as this group does not currently require routine monitoring
- People with a close family member (parent, sibling, or child) who has been diagnosed with a specific type of food pipe or stomach cancer (adenocarcinoma of the esophagus or gastric cardia)
