Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are a man or woman aged 18 or older
- A doctor has told you that you have migraine (with or without aura), and it is not classified as chronic migraine
- You have been having migraines for at least one year
- You had between 4 and 14 migraine attacks in the 30 days before joining the study
- During a 28-day pre-study tracking period, you recorded headache diary entries on at least 22 days, and had between 4 and 14 migraine days
- If you currently take any medication to prevent or treat migraines, you have not started any new migraine medications in the past 3 months
- You have not started any new non-medication treatments (such as therapy or lifestyle programs) for migraine in the past 3 months, and you agree not to start any during the trial
- You are willing to take part in all study activities and be assigned to any of the study groups
- You are fluent in English
- You own an iPhone or Android smartphone and are willing to download a study app called MyCap
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a history of stroke, mini-stroke (TIA), brain or spine surgery, current concussion treatment, or have been diagnosed with cluster headache, brain tumor, brain aneurysm, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder
- You have kidney failure or are currently on dialysis, or have another health condition that you feel might make it hard to follow the study requirements
- You currently have a problem with alcohol or substance misuse
- A doctor has told you that you have "medication overuse headache" (headaches caused by taking pain relief medications too often)
- You have received Botox injections for migraine in the past 6 months
- You are unable or unwilling to provide a urine sample at the start of the study
- You are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the study
- You are unwilling to avoid taking cocoa extract supplements (outside of those provided by the study) during the trial
- You have a very strong sensitivity to caffeine
