Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have signed a consent form and are willing and able to follow all study requirements
- People who are at least 18 years old
- People who have been diagnosed with high-grade, non-invasive upper urinary tract cancer (in the kidney collecting system or ureter), either for the first time or as a recurrence — confirmed by a tissue sample taken during a telescopic examination of the urinary tract
- People whose visible tumour growths have been largely removed, with no more than 15mm of tumour tissue remaining
- People whose cancer meets a specific "favourable high-grade" risk classification used by a major urology association (confirm with trial site), noting that having the cancer in multiple locations, causing a blockage, involving the ureter, or involving the bladder are still permitted
- People who also have bladder cancer must have that bladder cancer treated before or during the study treatment
- People who are reasonably physically functional — specifically, those with a general health score below a certain threshold (confirm with trial site)
- People whose life expectancy at the time of screening is greater than 24 months
- People who do not have an active urinary tract infection at the time of joining
- Women who could become pregnant must have a negative pregnancy blood test at the start and must agree to use two reliable forms of contraception until 6 months after treatment ends
- Men who are sexually active must agree to use a condom during sex for at least 48 hours after each treatment dose
- Male participants whose partner could become pregnant must agree to use two reliable forms of contraception until 6 months after treatment ends
- People who do not have any other medical condition that the investigator considers would make participation inadvisable
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose upper urinary tract cancer has grown into surrounding tissue, or who show signs of cancer spread to nearby lymph nodes
- People who have cancer in both sides of the upper urinary tract
- People who are currently receiving, or plan to receive, systemic (whole-body) chemotherapy during the trial
- People who have been diagnosed with another cancer within the past 2 years — exceptions include certain low-risk skin cancers, non-invasive cervical cancer, prostate cancer being monitored without treatment, and kidney cancer being monitored without treatment
- People for whom it is not physically possible to deliver the treatment through the relevant tube or into the kidney collecting system
- People who have any medical or mental health condition that the treating urologist considers would make participation inadvisable
- People who have a known allergy or medical reason preventing them from receiving the drug mitomycin C
- People who have an uncontrollable bleeding disorder (such as problems with clotting factors or Von Willebrand Disease)
- People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial or who have received an experimental treatment within the past 30 days
- People who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant during the trial, breastfeeding, or capable of becoming pregnant and not using reliable contraception
