Who may be able to join

AI generated eligibility summary. Written by an AI model from the official source data and checked on a sample basis. It can contain mistakes, so confirm anything important against the original source. How we use AI

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have previously been diagnosed with a confirmed (biopsy-proven) squamous cell carcinoma (a type of cancer) of the voice box (larynx) or the area around it (hypopharynx), at stage II through to stage IV
  • People who have previously been treated with radiation therapy, with or without chemotherapy
  • People who are experiencing a return of their cancer in the same area, damage to tissue caused by radiation, or a voice box that is no longer working properly
  • People aged 18 years or older
  • People who are able to understand and sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have an allergy to iodine or shellfish
  • People for whom surgery under general anaesthetic is not considered safe
  • People whose surgery is expected to involve removal of a larger area beyond the voice box (such as parts of the throat or oesophagus) requiring tissue from another part of the body to reconstruct the throat lining — though this may only be determined at the time of surgery (confirm with trial site)
  • People who are pregnant or currently breastfeeding
  • People who are currently living in prison
