Who might be able to join this trial:

For people newly diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB):

• Adults aged 18 or older
• People who have been recently confirmed as having a TB infection through a lab test (either a culture test or a nucleic acid amplification test), at any location in the body
• People who have not yet started any TB treatment
• People who are able to understand what the study involves and are willing to give their formal consent to participate

For healthy volunteers:

• Adults aged 18 or older
• People who a doctor has assessed as being in good health
• People who are able to understand what the study involves and are willing to give their formal consent to participate

Who may not be able to join:

For people newly diagnosed with TB:

• People who have received TB treatment, or a specific type of antibiotic called a fluoroquinolone used against TB, in the last 8 weeks
• People with a known history of cancer
• People who are pregnant
• People who require regular blood transfusions due to anaemia (low red blood cells)

For healthy volunteers:

• People who have had TB infection in the past, including an inactive ("latent") form of TB
• People who live with, or have had close contact with, someone who has active TB disease
• People whose chest X-ray shows changes that could suggest TB in the lungs
• People experiencing symptoms that would normally prompt a doctor to test for TB, such as a cough lasting more than 2 weeks, fever, unexplained weight loss, or night sweats
• People with another serious medical condition
• People who are pregnant
• People with a known history of cancer
