Who may be able to join
AI generated eligibility summary. Written by an AI model from the official source data and checked on a sample basis. It can contain mistakes, so confirm anything important against the original source. How we use AI
Who might be able to join this trial:
- Be between 5 and 17 years old
- Have been diagnosed with FSHD (type 1 or type 2) confirmed through genetic testing
- Have noticeable muscle weakness in the face, shoulders, core, or limbs
- Be able to walk 10 meters (about 33 feet) on your own in under 12 seconds without help from another person — walking aids like canes, sticks, or braces are allowed, but not a walker (a small number of participants who walk more slowly or cannot walk may still be considered — confirm with trial site)
Who may not be able to join:
- Those who are unwilling or unable to give consent to take part in the study
- Those with any other medical condition that the study doctor feels would interfere with participation
- Those currently being treated for cancer with chemotherapy or muscle-building (anabolic) drugs
- Those who have used immune-suppressing medications (such as prednisone) or performance-enhancing drugs (such as testosterone) within the past 6 months
- Those who are pregnant
- Those with a recent or current infection
- Those who have a pacemaker, metal fragments in the eye, or a certain type of brain surgery clip, as these may make MRI scans unsafe (confirm with trial site)
- Those who, in the study doctor's opinion, are unable to follow instructions for the required tests — note: difficulty with MRI due to fear or anxiety will not automatically disqualify someone, as they may try again at a later visit
