Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 12 to 21 years old
- People of any gender
- People who have been diagnosed with PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) according to the standard medical guidelines (DSM-5)
- People for whom at least 1 year has passed since the traumatic event that led to their PTSD diagnosis
- For those under 18: people who are willing and able to give their own agreement to take part, with a parent or legal guardian also willing to give formal consent on their behalf
- For those aged 18 and over: people who are willing and able to give their own formal consent to take part
- People who can speak, read, and write in English
- People who have normal vision and hearing, or vision and hearing that is fully corrected (for example, with glasses or hearing aids)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have already completed one or more full courses of a trauma-focused therapy in the past (such as EMDR or Prolonged Exposure Therapy) — the trial investigator will make this judgement on a case-by-case basis
- People who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, schizophreniform disorder, Bipolar I disorder, or delusional disorder
- People whose main focus of mental health treatment in the past 6 months has been a mood or anxiety disorder (such as depression or generalised anxiety), as determined by the site investigator
- People diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder that requires substantial support, or with at least mild intellectual disability — the investigator will assess this on a case-by-case basis
- People diagnosed with a moderate or severe substance use disorder (such as serious problems with alcohol or drugs) within the last 3 months before the screening visit
- People currently experiencing moderate or severe ADHD symptoms, as assessed at the screening visit
- People who have changed or started any psychiatric medication within the past 4 weeks, or who plan to change their medication or psychological therapy during the study
- People who have made a suicide attempt or engaged in suicidal behaviour in the past year before or during the screening period
- People who have started a new course of cognitive-behavioural therapy or a recognised PTSD treatment (such as CPT, Prolonged Exposure, or EMDR) within the past 3 months — note that continuing an already-established, ongoing supportive therapy is permitted
- People with a history of brain surgery, serious brain injury, epilepsy, stroke-related brain injury, brain infection, or other major neurological conditions, including a traumatic brain injury that caused loss of consciousness for more than 24 hours or memory loss lasting more than 7 days
- People with an unstable medical condition, as determined by the trial investigator
- People who are currently enrolled in another clinical trial, have been in one within the past 2 months, or plan to join another trial during this study
- People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the trial
