Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People of any gender
- People diagnosed with a low-risk, slow-growing type of thyroid cancer (called papillary or follicular thyroid carcinoma) where the tumour measures between 1 and 4 centimetres — diagnosed either by a needle biopsy test before surgery, or confirmed after a partial thyroid removal operation
- People who can speak, read, and write in English
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose thyroid cancer cells look more aggressive or unusual under a microscope (such as poorly differentiated, tall cell, columnar cell, Hurthle cell, or solid variant types)
- People whose thyroid cancer appears in more than one spot, on both sides of the thyroid, has grown outside the thyroid gland, or has spread into nearby nerves or blood vessels
- People whose thyroid cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes or to other parts of the body
- People whose thyroid cancer is linked to a family history of the condition
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who have an overactive or underactive thyroid and are already being considered for surgery for that condition
- People who have also been diagnosed with a different type of thyroid or parathyroid condition, such as medullary thyroid cancer, anaplastic thyroid cancer, thyroid lymphoma, or parathyroid disease
- People who have previously had thyroid surgery for any reason other than the partial thyroid removal related to their current cancer diagnosis
- People who have a cognitive impairment or a mental health condition that would prevent them from giving informed consent to participate
- People who are not able to read, write, and speak in English
