  • People who are having bariatric or metabolic (weight-loss) surgery for the first time, with a body weight that falls into one of these categories: a BMI of 40 or above; OR a BMI of 35 or above with at least one related health condition that may improve after surgery (such as high blood pressure, sleep apnea, type 2 diabetes, severe joint problems, a type of liver disease not caused by alcohol, or high cholesterol); OR a BMI between 30 and 35 with type 2 diabetes that is not well controlled

  • People who have already been assessed by a team of specialists — including a doctor, surgeon, and mental health professional — and received a positive recommendation for weight-loss surgery
  • People who agree to take part and have signed the study consent form

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have a serious, life-threatening illness that is not related to their weight
  • People who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the study period
  • People who are not covered by a French or European health insurance scheme
  • People who are under legal supervision or guardianship
  • People who are not able to give their own consent to participate
  • People who do not understand French
  • People who are already taking part in another clinical trial that may conflict with this one
