Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You must be female
  • You must be postmenopausal
  • You must currently be taking a bone medication called Alendronate
  • You have been taking Alendronate for more than 3 years AND have not had any bone fractures, OR you have been taking Alendronate for more than 5 years AND your most recent low-impact fracture (a break caused by a minor fall or everyday activity) happened more than 3 years ago

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your bone density scan shows a very low score (T-score below -3.5) in your hip or lower spine (confirm with trial site)
  • You are currently taking, or have taken in the last 12 months, steroid medicines taken by mouth or injection (such as prednisone or cortisone)
  • You have an inflammatory disease that is not well controlled
  • You currently have an active cancer
  • Your kidneys are not working well enough (a kidney function test result below a certain level — confirm with trial site)
  • You have ever had an unusual type of thigh bone fracture called an atypical femur fracture
  • You currently have a condition called osteonecrosis of the jaw (a serious jaw bone problem)
  • You are unable to give your consent to take part in the study
