Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with vaginal or cervical cancer that has come back or has not gone away after treatment
- Your cancer has been confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy) to be one of three specific types: squamous carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, or adenosquamous carcinoma
- Your cancer has returned only in the central area of the pelvis, and has not spread to surrounding structures
- The size of your tumor, as measured by MRI scan, is no larger than 50 mm (about 2 inches) across
- You are over 18 years old
- You have signed a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial
- You are considered well enough to have surgery
- You are reasonably active and able to carry out daily activities, based on a standard medical fitness scale (confirm with trial site)
Who may not be able to join:
- Certain lymph nodes near the main abdominal artery appear enlarged or show unusual activity on scan results
- Your cancer has spread to structures on the sides of the pelvis, seen on scans or during an examination carried out under anaesthetic
- Your cancer involves the sciatic nerve (a large nerve running from the lower back down the leg), seen on scans or during an examination under anaesthetic
- Your cancer has spread to other parts of the body beyond the pelvis, as shown on a PET/CT scan
- Your cancer is a type other than the three specific types listed above
- You have medical reasons that make surgery unsafe for you
- You have other serious health conditions that would make surgery, including keyhole surgery, too risky (this is decided by the medical team)
- You are unable to lie in certain positions required during surgery for an extended period of time (confirm with trial site)
- You have had another type of cancer in the last 5 years
