Who might be able to join this trial:
- People diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease (a blood disorder affecting red blood cells)
- People with Sickle Cell Disease who have a fully matched brother or sister available as a donor — this applies regardless of how often or how severely symptoms occur
- People with Transfusion-Dependent Alpha- or Beta-Thalassemia (a blood disorder requiring regular blood transfusions)
- People diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan Anemia (a rare bone marrow disorder)
- People with other non-cancerous blood disorders (confirm with trial site for specific conditions)
- People whose general health and ability to function meets a minimum level on a standard medical scale — those below this level may still be considered based on the study team's review
- People who are sexually active and could become pregnant, or whose partner could become pregnant, must agree to use a highly effective form of contraception during treatment and for at least 4 months after the transplant
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the study — those who could become pregnant must have had a negative pregnancy test within 30 days of starting treatment
- People with HIV who have a detectable level of the virus in their blood — all HIV-positive candidates must be assessed by an infectious disease specialist with a management plan in place before transplant
- People with an active infection that has not been responding to appropriate treatment (infections that are stable or improving after one week of treatment may still be eligible, or four weeks for fungal infections)
- People with a known allergy to any of the components used in the study
- People with a psychiatric illness or personal circumstances that, in the enrolling doctor's judgement, would make it difficult to follow the study requirements
