Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 16 and 80 years old (male or female)
- Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is 24 or higher (this means your weight is in the overweight or obese range based on your height)
Who may not be able to join:
- You drink heavily — for men, more than 140g of alcohol per week in the past 6 months, or for women, more than 70g per week (confirm with trial site for exact amounts)
- You have a liver condition caused by something other than the condition being studied, such as viral hepatitis, alcohol-related liver disease, immune-related liver disease, cirrhosis, or liver cancer
- You have a condition that affects how your body processes sugar or fat, such as an overactive or underactive thyroid, or Cushing's syndrome
- You have poorly controlled diabetes, meaning your blood sugar control (HbA1c) has been above 9.5% in the last three months, or you take certain diabetes medications that affect weight (such as pioglitazone, GLP-1 medications, or SGLT2 inhibitors)
- You have chronic kidney disease or seriously reduced kidney function (confirm with trial site)
- Your liver enzyme levels (ALT) are more than 3 times the normal upper limit (confirm with trial site)
- You have a serious health condition where your life expectancy is 3 years or less
- You are planning to become pregnant in the near future
- You are unable to attend follow-up appointments for any reason
- You have taken medications that can cause weight changes (such as steroids or thyroid hormones) for more than 2 weeks at a time during the past year
- You have taken part in another clinical trial in the past 4 weeks
- You have had stomach reduction surgery or any surgery on your digestive tract
- You have been diagnosed with any type of cancer or tumour
- You regularly do intense exercise or are planning to significantly change your diet (confirm with trial site)
