Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are an adult between 21 and 70 years old
- Your Body Mass Index (BMI) — a measure of body weight relative to height — is above 27.5
- Your waist measurement is greater than 90 cm (about 35.5 inches) if you are a man, or greater than 80 cm (about 31.5 inches) if you are a woman
- You have either poorly controlled type 2 diabetes (with a blood sugar level called HbA1c above 6.5%), and/or a condition where fat has built up in the liver (confirmed by a scan or tissue sample), with no other long-term liver disease present
Who may not be able to join:
- Men who regularly drink more than 21 units of alcohol per week, or women who drink more than 14 units per week
- People who have previously taken medication specifically to help with weight loss — although if you are interested in joining, you may be able to participate after waiting at least 3 months since stopping that medication
- People with a serious illness where life expectancy is estimated to be less than 6 months
- People who are unable to read and follow written instructions provided in English
