Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Men and post-menopausal women between the ages of 30 and 75

  • People with anaemia (low levels of red blood cells or haemoglobin) detected at screening
  • People who have donated blood or taken part in a study involving blood collection within the past 30 days
  • People who have used antibiotics in the past 3 months, or who expect to need antibiotics during the study
  • People who regularly use probiotic or prebiotic supplements, or eat foods specifically enriched with probiotics
  • People diagnosed with coeliac disease
  • People who follow a vegan or vegetarian diet, or any diet that would be incompatible with the trial's eating plans
  • People who do more than 7 hours per week of moderate exercise, or more than 3 hours per week of high-intensity exercise
  • People with a history of drug or alcohol misuse
  • People who are not able to understand written and spoken Swedish
  • People considered unsuitable for any other reason, as determined by the lead researchers
