Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between the ages of 18 and 65
- People who are having urgent surgery to repair a bone or muscle injury
- People whose injuries are considered serious, based on a standardized injury scoring system called the Injury Severity Score being greater than 15 (confirm with trial site)
- People who are able to give their own consent to participate, or who have a legally authorized person who can give consent on their behalf
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are younger than 18 or older than 65
- People for whom a medication called ketamine is being used for sedation before or after surgery
- People who have a known allergy or medical reason why ketamine would not be safe for them
- People who have previously tried ketamine as a treatment for depression or PTSD and it did not work
- People who have a severe psychiatric condition or symptoms of psychosis
- People who have a history of dementia or glaucoma
- People who are currently participating in a specific type of therapy for trauma or PTSD that was started within the last 3 months
