Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are older than 18 years of age
- You have been diagnosed with sickle cell disease (one of several specific types, including HbSS, HbSC, or related variants — confirm with trial site if unsure which type you have)
- Your pain levels, as measured by a specific questionnaire called ASCQ-Me, score 60 or below on the pain interference section
- If you are already taking a sickle cell disease medication (such as hydroxyurea, L-glutamine, voxelotor, crizanlizumab, or regular blood transfusions), you have been on a stable, unchanged dose for at least 3 months
- If you use opioid pain medications at home, you have been on a stable, unchanged dose for at least 3 months
- You have had one urine drug test that came back negative for cannabis within 30 days of joining the study
- You are willing to completely avoid cannabis (including medical cannabis) during weeks 1 through 4 of the study
- You are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- If you are someone who could become pregnant, you are willing to use an accepted form of birth control throughout the study (such as the pill, implant, patch, injection, surgical sterilisation, or complete abstinence)
- You are able to understand and agree to take part in the research yourself
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a known intolerance or bad reaction to cannabis-based products
- You have a history of a psychotic episode, psychosis, or are currently having thoughts of suicide
- You have a medical reason why you cannot safely take Epidiolex (a cannabis-derived medication), based on a doctor's review of your other medications, substances, or health conditions (confirm with trial site)
- You currently use cannabis every single day
- You have been diagnosed with an active substance use disorder
- Your liver enzyme levels (ALT) are more than 3 times higher than the normal range
