Who might be able to join this trial:
- Men who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (based on World Health Organization standards) — note that only men are being included in this trial to avoid the influence of the menstrual cycle on stomach emptying results

- People with any other ongoing illness (apart from type 2 diabetes), as assessed by the trial investigators, including chronic conditions not specifically listed
- People currently taking prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or herbal supplements that may affect energy, digestion, body weight, or appetite (examples include domperidone, metoclopramide, erythromycin, orlistat, St John's Wort, and others — confirm with trial site if unsure about a specific medication)
- People with lactose intolerance or other food allergies
- People with low ferritin (iron store) levels below 30 ng/mL, or who have donated blood in the 12 weeks before the study
- High-performance or elite athletes
- People who currently drink more than 2 standard alcoholic drinks on more than 5 days per week (more than 140g of alcohol per week)
- People who currently smoke any form of tobacco, including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, sheesha, chewing tobacco, or vaping
- People who currently use recreational drugs such as marijuana, or any other illicit substances
- People who follow a vegetarian diet
- People who are unable to tolerate a thin tube passed through the nose into the small intestine (a nasoduodenal tube)
- People who are unable to understand or follow the study protocol
- People whose HbA1c is below 6% or above 7.9%
- People whose kidney filtration rate (eGFR) is below 45 ml/min, indicating reduced kidney function
- People whose diabetes medications cannot safely be paused for 48 hours for medical reasons
