Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Your child is between 8 and 17 years old and has experienced at least one traumatic event
  • Your child has been diagnosed with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) as a result of one or more of those traumatic experiences
  • Your child agrees and is willing to take part in the study
  • A parent or legal guardian is available and willing to give permission for the child to participate
  • You and your child are willing to take part in the treatment sessions and complete surveys
  • Your child is able to read and understand English
  • You are willing for your child to be randomly assigned to one of the treatment groups in the study
  • Your child has been living in a stable home environment for at least two months, with no plans to move or change living arrangements soon

  • Either the caregiver or the child has a smartphone that can download a free app

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your child has serious psychiatric concerns that require a higher level of care, such as thoughts of suicide with a plan, or a current psychotic disorder
  • Your child has an IQ below 70
  • Your child is currently receiving any mental health treatment specifically for PTSD or trauma-related concerns
  • The participating caregiver was responsible for causing any of the child's identified traumas (for example, sexual abuse)
  • Your child has something that would prevent them from safely having an MRI scan, such as metal implants in the body
