Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 26 years of age or older
  • Your body weight falls into a higher BMI category (BMI of 27 or above for most people, or 25 or above if you are of Asian heritage, either fully or partially)
  • You are not getting enough physical activity — specifically, less than 150 minutes per week of moderate-to-vigorous activity, as recommended by US guidelines

  • On a typical night, you eat or drink something with calories after 8:00pm

    • Low levels of "good" (HDL) cholesterol (below 40 mg/dL for men, below 50 mg/dL for women)
    • High triglycerides (fats in the blood above 150 mg/dL) or you take medication to control them
    • Higher-than-normal fasting blood sugar (100 mg/dL or above) or you take medication to control it

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a condition that disrupts sleep, including pregnancy, breastfeeding, being a nighttime caregiver for others, a sleep disorder, or severe sleep apnea
  • You have a history of episodes of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
  • You have a pacemaker
  • You drink more than 4 cups of coffee (or the equivalent in caffeine) per day, or you consume caffeine after 5:00pm
  • You are currently taking part in another physical activity, diet, or weight loss program or research study
  • Your weight has gone up or down by 5% or more in the last three months
  • You use illegal drugs
  • You use THC (marijuana) in any form, including smoking or edibles
  • You drink alcohol heavily (8 or more drinks per week for women, 15 or more per week for men)
  • You currently smoke or use nicotine in any form, including vaping, e-cigarettes, patches, or gum
  • You take certain medications that strongly affect blood sugar or sleep, such as insulin, corticosteroids, growth hormone, or melatonin
  • You have a current or past diagnosis of an eating disorder (such as anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, or night eating syndrome), or you report eating disorder behaviours
  • Your blood sugar is unstable or poorly managed, including fasting blood sugar above 125 mg/dL
  • You have a serious ongoing illness linked to weight changes, such as HIV/AIDS, active cancer, or an uncontrolled thyroid condition
  • You work shift work (non-standard or rotating work hours)
  • You have travelled across more than one time zone in the 3 months before the study, or plan to do so during the study
  • You currently use blue-light-blocking glasses or products in the evening or at night
  • Your blood pressure is very high and not well controlled (systolic at or above 165 or diastolic at or above 100 mmHg)
  • You have any condition or situation that would make it difficult to follow the study's requirements (confirm with trial site)
  • Your primary personal phone is not an Android device
