Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with a solid tumour cancer, confirmed by laboratory testing of tissue or cells within the past 5 years (or with more recent imaging or tissue confirmation if the original diagnosis was longer ago)
- People who are starting, or planning to start, a systemic (whole-body) cancer treatment that is expected to work on brain tumours — this includes certain targeted therapies, immunotherapy checkpoint inhibitors, HER2-targeted drug combinations, anti-hormone therapies for breast cancer, or chemotherapy with a plan to add immunotherapy or targeted therapy before a follow-up brain scan
- People who have at least one brain metastasis (cancer that has spread to the brain) that is not planned to be treated with radiation or surgery
- People whose untreated brain metastases are each 3 cm or smaller in size
- People whose systemic treatment has started, or is planned to start, within 4 weeks of a brain MRI scan that showed new or worsening disease
- People who are able to have MRI scans of the brain with contrast dye, using a scan slice thickness of 1.5 mm or less
- People aged 18 or older
- People with a performance status score above 60 on the Karnofsky scale, which generally means able to care for most personal needs with only occasional assistance (confirm with trial site)
- People who are willing and able to read and sign an informed consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have used the planned new systemic treatment (of the type described above) for brain metastases at any point in the past 6 months
- People whose active brain metastases have previously been treated with any form of radiation therapy, including partial brain, whole brain, or preventive brain radiation
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, due to potential risks to an unborn child or infant — people who could become pregnant must have a negative urine pregnancy test within 14 days before joining the trial
- People with serious other medical conditions that the trial doctors believe would prevent safe participation
- People with a condition called leptomeningeal disease, where cancer has spread to the fluid and membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord
