Who might be able to join this trial:
- People diagnosed with acute leukemia in complete remission (meaning no signs of disease are currently detectable) and/or a bone marrow disorder called myelodysplastic syndrome, who are having their first bone marrow/stem cell transplant from a donor
- People aged 12 to 65 years (any gender)
- People whose planned transplant uses a half-matched donor (such as a parent or child), but not a donor who is the patient's mother or a donor from the same generation such as a sibling (confirm with trial site)
- People whose general physical functioning is rated at 3 or below on a standard medical scale, meaning they are able to carry out some self-care even if limited (confirm with trial site)
- People whose heart is pumping blood effectively, with a measurement called ejection fraction above 55%
- People whose kidney function blood test result is within an acceptable range (no more than 1.5 times the upper limit of normal for creatinine)
Who may not be able to join:
- People with serious problems affecting the brain, heart, kidneys, or liver
- People whose cancer or blood disorder has not responded to previous treatments (refractory disease)
- People who have another cancer that currently requires treatment
- People with a severe active infection that is not under control
- People whose doctors estimate they have less than 3 months to live
- People with a history of severe allergic reactions
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People whom the trial doctor considers unsuitable for the study for any other reason
