Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between 18 and 60 years old
- People who currently live in Massachusetts
- People who have at least one of the following: low "good" (HDL) cholesterol, high "bad" (LDL) cholesterol, high triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood), obesity, a blood sugar reading of 5.7% or higher on a specific test called HbA1c, or a diagnosis of diabetes
- People who are not pregnant
- People who are willing to take a nutritional supplement and follow the study's procedures
Who may not be able to join:
- People who take any diabetes medications other than metformin, or any cholesterol medications other than statins, or any medications that suppress the immune system
- People who currently take any supplements that contain omega-3 fatty acids (n-3 fatty acids)
- People who currently use illicit drugs, with the exception of marijuana
- People who use hormone therapy, unless it is oral contraceptives (the contraceptive pill)
- People who have a known allergy to fish, seafood, or any products made from fish, including a food called bottarga
- People who are pregnant
- People who have a history of, or current signs of, liver or kidney problems
- People who have a condition that weakens the immune system
- People who have a history of cancer, not including skin cancer
- People who are currently taking part in another clinical research study
