Who might be able to join this trial:

• People aged between 60 and 75 years old, of any gender
• People who have been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML, a type of blood cancer) according to established medical guidelines, but not the specific subtype called acute promyelocytic leukemia
• People whose AML is classified as intermediate or high risk based on standard 2022 medical guidelines
• People whose doctors estimate they are expected to live for at least 3 more months

• People whose AML has gone into remission after initial treatment, confirmed by a bone marrow test showing no signs of leukemia
• People with a general health and activity level rated as 0 to 2 on a standard medical scale (meaning they are able to care for themselves, even if they cannot do heavy physical work)
• People whose recent blood tests (taken within 7 days before starting treatment) show that liver function, kidney function, and heart pumping function are all within acceptable ranges
• People who are able to attend all required trial visits and follow all trial instructions
• People who are able to swallow and take oral (by mouth) medications

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have had an allergic reaction to any of the medications used in this trial, or to medications with a similar chemical structure
• People assessed as unable to tolerate chemotherapy based on a specific medical scoring method used before joining the trial (confirm with trial site)
• People whose leukemia has come back, shown by more than 5% abnormal cells found in a bone marrow test
• People who have also been diagnosed with another active cancer in another part of the body that requires treatment

• People with active heart disease, including: uncontrolled or ongoing chest pain (angina); a heart attack within the last 6 months; a heart rhythm problem that requires medication or causes serious symptoms; uncontrolled or significant heart failure; or a heart pumping strength that is below the normal range
• People who have taken part in another clinical trial within the past 30 days
• People who currently have an active infection
• People who the trial doctor considers unsuitable for participation for any other reason
