Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between the ages of 45 and 60 years
- People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 30 and 40 (a measure of body weight relative to height that a doctor can calculate)
- People of any racial or ethnic background
Who may not be able to join:
- People younger than 45 or older than 60 years
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with a BMI below 30 or above 40
- People who have been diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes
- People with an active autoimmune disease, liver disease, a blood clotting disorder, or an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)
- People with a known allergy to fish or shellfish
- People currently taking any of the following medications: asthma controller medications, blood thinners (anticoagulants), estrogen or testosterone, or daily aspirin or anti-inflammatory pain relievers (such as ibuprofen or naproxen)
- People who are unable to give informed consent to participate
- People currently receiving therapy that affects or suppresses the immune system
- People with a known active cancer or who are currently receiving cancer treatment
- People who have been taking omega-3 fish oil supplements, or who eat fatty fish more than twice a week, within the 3 months before enrolling in the trial
