Who might be able to join this trial:

If you have bladder cancer:

• You have been diagnosed with bladder cancer
• Your urine test shows no signs of infection (negative urine culture)
• Your cancer has been confirmed by tissue testing as a specific type called urothelial carcinoma
• You are scheduled to have your bladder surgically removed (radical cystectomy)

If you are a healthy volunteer or have no known illness:

• You are a man within a certain age range (confirm specific age range with trial site)
• You may be recruited through an occupational health or workplace medicine department at the institution running the trial

If you have a non-cancerous urinary condition:

• You have a benign (non-cancerous) urinary condition such as kidney cysts, an enlarged prostate causing blockage, or a blockage in the tube connecting the kidney to the bladder
• You are scheduled to have surgery for one of these conditions

Who may not be able to join:

If you have bladder cancer:

• You have or have had another type of cancer
• You have previously had a treatment called BCG therapy (a type of bladder treatment)
• You use a permanent urinary catheter
• You have taken antibiotics within the two months before joining the trial
• You have a history of sexually transmitted diseases
• You have a long-term inflammatory bowel condition
• You have previously received chemotherapy or other treatment before surgery (neoadjuvant therapy)

If you are a healthy volunteer:

• You have diabetes
• You have chronic kidney disease
• You have a heart condition
• You have a liver condition
