Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People who are able to meet the study requirements, including attending follow-up appointments
- People who have advanced chronic kidney disease and are already on hemodialysis (kidney dialysis), or who are expected to need hemodialysis within the next 6 months
- People whose overall health condition, in their doctor's judgment, means they can safely undergo the initial surgery and any follow-up procedures related to vascular access
- People who have had a recent ultrasound scan that maps the veins and arteries in the arm being considered for surgery
- People whose arm blood vessels meet specific size and structural requirements for creating a fistula (an artificial connection between an artery and vein used for dialysis) — including vessel widths and vein depth beneath the skin (confirm with trial site for exact measurements)
- People being considered for a specific type of fistula created at the wrist or elbow using their own blood vessels
- People who do not have a kidney transplant planned within the next 60 days (being on a transplant waiting list does not prevent someone from being considered)
- People who have not had previous arteriovenous (artery-to-vein connection) surgery in the same or nearby location in the arm
- People who understand the study conditions and agree to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are pregnant
- People with a life expectancy of less than one year
- People who have previously had a non-natural (prosthetic) fistula, a repaired fistula, a vascular access created in the leg, or other unusual vascular access types
- People with a known or suspected blockage or narrowing of a major vein near the chest on the side of the planned arm surgery
- People who have had a previous vascular access repaired by reconnecting it at a higher point in the arm
- People receiving biological immunosuppression therapy (certain medicines that suppress the immune system) (confirm with trial site)
- People with serious heart conditions, including severe heart failure, a heart attack within the past 6 weeks, certain heart rhythm problems requiring ongoing treatment, or unstable chest pain
- People with a known or suspected condition that causes blood to clot too easily or not enough, or people with a significant active infection (confirm with trial site for specific details)
- People with any other condition that, in the investigator's judgment, would affect the safe and accurate evaluation of the study
- People who are unwilling or unable to attend required follow-up visits
