Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with bipolar I disorder (with or without psychotic symptoms), confirmed through a structured clinical interview, including cases where the episode has mixed features (a mix of manic and depressive symptoms).
- People who have had at least one previous manic episode (with or without psychotic symptoms) that needed treatment, occurring within the last 5 years before the first study visit.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a history of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, major depressive disorder, or a moderate to severe problem with substance or alcohol use, as identified through a structured clinical interview.
- People who have a history of conditions affecting memory, thinking, or cognition (such as dementia or delirium), or certain personality disorders (including borderline, paranoid, histrionic, schizotypal, schizoid, or antisocial personality disorder), based on medical history or the opinion of the study investigator. Note: Any other current diagnoses would need to be discussed with the trial's medical team.
- People who are considered "rapid cyclers," meaning they have had 4 or more separate mood episodes (manic or depressive) in the past 12 months, with each episode fully meeting the clinical diagnostic criteria and separated by at least 2 months of full or partial recovery, or a switch to the opposite type of episode.
