Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults aged 50 to 74 years who have smoked at least 20 pack-years and are either currently smoking or stopped smoking within the last 15 years (current smokers must agree to join a smoking cessation program).
  • Men aged 45 to 74 years, or women aged 40 to 74 years, who have a biological parent, child, or sibling who has been diagnosed with lung cancer (those who currently smoke must agree to join a smoking cessation program).

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are currently pregnant.
  • People who have had a chest CT scan (including low-dose CT) in the past 12 months.
  • People who have previously been diagnosed with lung cancer.
  • People who are not able to undergo a chest biopsy or surgery if needed.
  • People who are not able to complete the CT scan process, for example those who cannot hold their breath long enough during the scan.
  • People who have had unexplained coughing up of blood in the past month.
  • People whose chest X-ray in the past month showed a clearly suspicious spot on the lung.
  • People who have lost more than 6 kilograms of body weight for no known reason in the past year.
